We’re looking for a Health & Safety Advisor for our Northern region. You’ll provide front line Health, Safety and Environmental (SHE) support, advice and guidance to stores. You’ll support company and statutory Health and Safety reporting requirements, deliver the 2nd line of defence HS&E audit programme and as well as Safety improvement projects across the business.
As this role covers our Northern region, we'd expect you to be based anywhere in the Midlands up to Yorkshire or Greater Manchester area.
What you’ll be doing:
Plan, schedule and undertake Stay Safe reviews as determined by the Wickes SSR plan, with appropriate post audit support as required.
Provide clear, accurate and timely audit and other reports.
Deliver HSE related training in line with the business plan or as a result of specific training identified
Provide competent advice and guidance on store safety compliance issues or problems.
Ensure the management of the lost time incident and investigation process, supporting managers to ensure the Just culture process is followed
Ensure the effective investigation of incidents within the Division in accordance with investigation procedures
Ensure the timely identification and reporting of RIDDOR accidents
Act as a visible leader for the principles of Stay Safe. Through personal leadership style set the right tone at the top and establish an open culture encouraging a high level of communication and employer participation both internally and externally on Stay Safe issues.
Report into the the Head of Safety to identify and share any best practice or areas for improvement
Support the review and update of the retail safety management framework including risk assessments, procedures and Training.
Additionally as part of the wider Stay Safe Team you’ll:l
Support the development and implementation of Business wide initiatives and activities including the development of new systems, tools and training.
Work collaboratively to share best practice and ideas
Support Stay Safe colleagues by adopting a flexible approach to inter-division working.
What we’re looking for:
You’ll ideally have, or commit to be trained to, a minimum of a NEBOSH safety certificate, and possess excellent communication, presentation and investigative skills. As well as this we’re looking for:
2 + years Retail operations
An understanding of our safety management controls within Retail
Excellent written and verbal communication
Presentation and training experience
Google suite understanding
Full understanding of H&S in Wickes stores
Project management skills are desirable
Strong influencer
