We have an exciting opportunity for a paralegal to join our dedicated in-house legal and sustainability team to carry out a broad and varied role, reporting to our Senior Legal Counsel. In this role you will be based at our Head Office in Watford (with a requirement to work in the office at least twice a week) and will be responsible for supporting the legal and sustainability team across a variety of areas, including contracts, general commercial matters, legal  disputes, statutory and listed company compliance,  sustainability and regulatory governance. 


You will have excellent communication and organisation skills and be confident liaising with all levels of the business. You will have strong commercial awareness and have the ability to solve problems in a pragmatic and logical way. You will have a professional approach to your work and a strong desire to learn and apply your legal and operational knowledge in a commercial operation.  


Tasks that you complete may include:


  • Review and mark-up simple GFR and GNFR commercial contracts;

  • Support on commercial and corporate activities relating to both Wickes and our part owned subsidiary, Solar Fast;

  • Carry out horizon scanning and research on a range of legal, sustainability and regulatory issues, including on new legislation, and draft concise and simple notes on the outcomes;

  • Company filings at Companies House

  • Filings and announcements for share buybacks

  • Manage supplier invoice payments

  • Support on legal disputes, including drafting responses to letters before action 

  • Providing support to external claims handlers on insurance claims

  • Support the Regulatory Governance Manager with key compliance activities, including creating reports and reviewing/updating i-learn content; 

  • Attend the Regulatory Governance Committee meetings, take minutes of the meeting and manage the action tracker



You will have a qualifying law degree and a desire to pursue a legal career. You will ideally have some experience working in an in-house legal environment. You'll need to have a desire to work in-house and a genuine commitment to be the very best you can.  You will  be calm under pressure and remain professional in the face of challenge and conflict. In addition you will be a ‘hands on’ self-starter and be able to operate at all levels within a fast paced but rewarding environment. Support for qualification will be considered for the right candidate.
